Intro Painting Workshop
with Olaf Kuhnemann
An introduction to the expressive and versatile medium of painting with a focus on experimenting and trying out different painting methods. Starting with ideas and questions about how we see and think using colour, form, surface , edges, layers, composition, and pictorial space. Through different exercises we will learn how to sharpen our understanding of how colours interact and how to mix paint. Learn step by step, with many live demos, how to craft a painting by exploring techniques for paint application, brushstrokes, blending and Narrative. By the end of this workshop you will have a solid foundation upon which to launch your own painting journey.
While the focus is on painting from direct observation, we will also use photographs and reproductions as inspiration , as well as opportunities to explore individual style and personal expression. We will look to examples from both art history and contemporary art for technical and conceptual insights. We will take a field trip to one of the Berlin Museums or Gallery’s to observe how different artists have made specific technique choices to express their vision and Narrative.
Non-toxic acrylic paint will be supplied.
